Overview

The Trellis Widget is a new chart widget available in the Diagnostics module, designed to support production engineering workflows and production variance analysis. A trellis chart displays multiple charts that share a common x-axis, so zooming or panning one chart moves all charts simultaneously, making it easy to compare multiple production streams across the same time window.

Adding the Trellis Widget to Your Diagnostic View

The Trellis Widget is accessed the same way as other Diagnostics widgets:
1. Run diagnostics and open the sidebar.
2. Locate the new Trellis Chart icon in the widget list.
3. Drag the widget onto your diagnostics canvas and resize or reposition it as needed.
The widget behaves like all other charts in Diagnostics — it can be repositioned, resized, and saved as part of your diagnostics configuration.



When you first add the Trellis Widget, it will show a 'No wells are selected' message. To populate this with data, we must select wells from our Scalar Metrics Table, the same way as we would for the time series table. 


Now we can see data populated on the chart. Selecting multiple wells will aggregate the data from all selected wells into one stream.
Note: You can cycle through wells by holding S and pressing the down arrow. Additionally, you can create a selection of wells by holding S + shift + pressing down arrow.

Layout and Chart Structure

When you select a well, the widget populates with three default charts, one each for:
  1. Oil production
  2. Gas production
  3. Water production
Each chart is independent in terms of its y-axis and series configuration, but all charts share the same x-axis. This is the core behavior of a trellis layout: interacting with the x-axis (zooming, scrolling) on any chart updates all charts in the widget simultaneously.

The selected well will be displayed at the top of the chart. If multiple wells are selected, the total amount of wells selected will be displayed. When hovering your mouse over the chart, you will be able to see the specific value for each steam at a specific date.


We can display up to 8 charts at any given time. Charts can be added by selecting the blue "+ Chart" button on the top right portion of the Trellis chart.


 Additionally, we can display up to three series per chart. To select additional series, click the "+" button on the chart, then select the series you wish to add, and select apply. If you want to remove a series from the chart, deselect the series and click apply.


Limits

  1. Up to 3 series per chart area. Each chart can display up to three data streams at once (for example, production, forecast, and a calculated metric).
  2. Up to 8 chart areas per widget. You can add or remove chart areas to focus on the streams most relevant to your analysis.

Resolution and Axis Settings

Data Resolution

At the top of the widget, toggle between:
  1. Monthly — aggregated monthly production values.
  2. Daily — raw daily production values.

X-Axis Settings

Click the Settings icon on the widget to configure the x-axis:
  1. Time — aligns all charts to a calendar date axis.
  2. Relative Time — aligns all charts to time elapsed from a reference point, useful for comparing wells with different start dates.
You can also set x-axis range values in the settings panel. These ranges are saved as part of your diagnostics configuration when you save the widget.


Y-Axis Settings

Each individual chart area has its own settings panel, accessible by clicking within that chart area. Per-chart settings include:
  1. Y-axis minimum and maximum values
  2. Scale toggle: Log scale or Linear scale
Note: If you are displaying delta streams (values that go positive and negative), log scale will not show the negative portion of the data. Switch to Linear scale to see the full range of delta values.


Managing Streams Within Each Chart

Each chart area in the widget is independently configurable. You can customize the streams displayed without affecting other chart areas.

Adding Streams

Click the plus (+) icon within a chart area to open the stream selector. You can choose any combination of available streams, such as production volumes, forecast volumes, and calculated metrics. Click Apply to refresh all charts.

Removing Charts

Each chart area has a remove option. Use this to trim the widget down to only the streams relevant to your current analysis.

Legends

Each chart area displays its own legend, which is both editable and movable. Drag the legend to reposition it within that chart area.

Selecting Wells and Aggregating Data

Single Well

Click a well in Diagnostics to populate the Trellis Widget with that well's data. Clicking a different well switches the widget to the newly selected well.

Multiple Wells (Aggregation)

You can select more than one well, and the widget will aggregate those wells' production together across all chart areas. This makes it possible to view group-level production trends — for example, selecting an entire section or all 1,300 wells in a project to view aggregate output.
  1. Not all streams can be aggregated across multiple wells. Streams that cannot be aggregated will be highlighted in orange with a message indicating they will be ignored when multiple wells are selected.
  2. Rule of thumb: only streams that appear in the Diagnostics time series chart can be aggregated (see below). If a stream does not show up in the time series, it will not aggregate in the Trellis Widget either.
  3. Custom metrics are supported for aggregation and will display correctly when multiple wells are selected.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Clicking each well individually to cycle through a large well list can be time-consuming. The Trellis Widget supports keyboard shortcuts to navigate and select wells quickly. Click anywhere on the widget first to make sure it has focus, then use the following:
  1. Move to next well - S + Arrow Down
  2. Move to previous well - S + Arrow Up
  3. Adds the next well to the group - Shift + S + Arrow Down
  4. Deselects the last well int he group - Shift + S + Arrow Up

Saving Configuration

All widget settings are saved as part of your diagnostics configuration. This includes:
  1. X-axis type (Time or Relative Time) and range
  2. Per-chart y-axis min/max values and scale (Log or Linear)
  3. Number of chart areas and which streams are displayed in each
Save the diagnostics configuration as you would normally to persist these settings for future sessions.

Export Chart

To export the chart, right click anywhere on the chart. You will then have the option to download as PDF or as an XLS file.
