Mouse Forecasting
In this article we will go over the process of editing forecast with Mouse Forecasting.
With the mouse forecasting tool, ComboCurve allows users to reach into a decline curve and drag it into shape. The "Edit with mouse" tool is found in the Modular Forecasting page at the top right of the Editing Chart (pencil icon). Also, by pressing and holding 'Shift+M', this will activate the "Edit with mouse" tool. Once it's active, the icon changes to an X with the tooltip "Exit mouse-forecasting (Shift+M)" - so the same shortcut toggles you in and out.

After activating mouse forecasting, bold dots or "handles" will appear on the forecast curve. You can click and drag these handles, which will manipulate different parameters of the curve. The handles may differ based off the different segments that are applied to the curve. To add and stack multiple segments, you can click on the blue "Add Segment" button above the parameters table on he left hand side of the screen. Each new segment appears as its own column in the parameter table (Segment 1, Segment 2, etc.), and you can mouse-drag the boundary between segments to adjust exactly where one stage ends and the next begins.
As you drag, a live tooltip shows the exact values updating in real time — q Start, Start Date, Di Nominal, q End, and so on. Likewise, the parameters will differ based on the different types of segments applied. Also, every drag is reflected instantly in the Parameters panel on the left, so you can fine-tune visually and then verify the underlying numbers.
Back at the top right of the Editing Chart, we now have four different toggles/modes to perform different mechanics. These four modes are:
Translate - shifts the curve without changing the shape of the curve.
Free - pivots the curve and if you hit a boundary then the color of the segment will change due to hitting a limit of some kind.
Shift - (with 2 segments) will shift the curve back and forth without changing the initial segment.
Shrink - (with 2 segments) will honor the start of the curve and shrink the initial segment or vise versa.
Note: Hover over the different toggles with your mouse to see what each toggle is and its purpose. Also, to exit the "Edit with mouse" tool, click on the blue pencil icon. Lastly, don't forget to save your segments!
